Achieving Justice Series - Angela Alexander

"Achieving Justice" is an interview series to educate individuals about Ohio's judicial system and the judges and candidates for judge who serve and wish to serve their state and community. This interview is conducted by Judge Jennifer Brunner, currently a judge of Ohio's Tenth District Court of Appeals. Judge Brunner is a candidate for the Ohio Supreme Court in 2020. In her eighth interview of this series, she interviews Angela Alexander, a candidate for judge of the Stark County Probate Court, located in Canton, Ohio.

Angela Alexander has over 20 years experience in public service as a prosecuting attorney and public defender. Angela has prosecuted thousands of criminal felony cases including murders, rapes, senior abuse and exploitation, child abuse and domestic violence. Angela was an active private attorney where she assisted families in civil court, family court, juvenile court and probate court. Angela has been an innovator in the justice system and is always looking for ways to improve our court system.

Angela is married to Attorney John Alexander and they reside in Plain Township and they have three boys. Angela and her family are members of Faith Family Church in Canton. She was the first member of her family to graduate from college. Angela’s father Jerry Walls, retired from the Timken Company and was a member of the United Steelworkers Local 1123. Her grandfather was a Teamster. Angelas’ father-in-law John Alexander Sr. is a retired United Steel Worker, health, safety, and environment staff member from the International union office in Pittsburg. He is also retired from Goodyear Tire where he was an active member of the union for 44 years. Her husband John Alexander Jr. was a union organizer for United Food Commercial Worker Local #1099 while in college.

As a single mother, she earned her Bachelor degree in Political Science from the University of Akron in four years. She continued to live in Canton while she earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of Akron School of Law. While in Law School she worked at the Massillon Law Department.
